JUNIOR TOURNAMENT PLAYER ACADEMY
The Junior Tournament Player Academy is a new program geared towards players between the ages of 8 and 14 who are currently competing in junior tennis tournaments. The Junior Tournament Player Academy is an intensive program that offers clinics Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm and on Saturdays from 2:45 pm to 4:45 pm. The Tuesday and Thursday workouts will be held at the “Morey” tennis courts on the Sacred Heart Schools campus (Valparaiso and Elena) and the Saturday clinic will take place at the Sacred Heart Schools tennis complex (Valparaiso and Emilie).
You can expect to work on and improve your stroking mechanics as well as your shot selection and placement. You will cultivate your skills as we run you through a wide array of drills, games and match play. You will be part of a system that has helped develop the skills of the following players (the number in the parenthesis represents the number of years the student-athlete spent in our program):
- Scotty Scott (6 years): Scotty earned junior rankings as high as number one in Northern California and top 15 in the United States. He played tennis at
Stanford University and was part of two national championship teams while playing at the Farm.
- Jenna Long (6 years): Jenna earned junior rankings as high as number one in Northern California and number four nationally. She played tennis at the University of North Carolina where she played number one singles and number one doubles her junior and senior seasons. Jenna was NCAA doubles champion her senior year and was ranked as high as number four nationally in singles. She earned National Player of the Year during her final season at North Carolina.
- Pramod Dabir (5 years): Pramod earned junior rankings as high as number one in Northern California and number four nationally.
Pramod was a national junior champion in doubles (winning the doubles title at Kalamazoo in the boys’ 18’s division).
He also competed in the main draw of the US OPEN men's doubles tournament.
He was a member of the University of Illinois tennis team that won the NCAA championship during the 2002-3 season. The Fighting Illini were 32-0 during their championship season.
- Stephanie Schnitter (9 years): Stephanie earned junior rankings as high as number one in Northern California and number eleven nationally.
She was a three year starter at Harvard University.
Stephanie was part of the 2005-6 Harvard team that earned an NCAA ranking of #11.
She finished that season with a dual match record of 23-1 in singles play.
- Adam Davison (10 years): Adam earned junior rankings as high as number four in Northern California.
Adam is currently a starter for the tennis team at Boston College.
- Sam Rosekrans (10 years): Sam earned junior rankings as high as number one in Northern California
and top twenty nationally.
Sam is currently attending Harvard University where she competes for the Crimson.
- Erik Blumenkranz (9 years): Erik earned junior rankings as high as number two in Northern California and top fifty nationally.
Erik is currently attending Yale University where he is a starter on the tennis team.
- Jamie Hutter (10 years): Jamie earned junior rankings as high as number two in Northern California and top fifty nationally.
Jamie is currently competing on the tennis team at Stanford University where he is a scholarship athlete.
TOURNAMENT PLAYER ACADEMY COACHES

- Jeff Arons is currently the tennis director at Sacred Heart Schools. Jeff has twenty-five years of coaching experience. His coaching experiences range from creating and directing the East Palo Alto Tennis and Tutoring Program to coaching a Wimbledon doubles champion. His most current crop of junior players are now playing collegiate tennis at Stanford University, Harvard University, Yale University, Cornell University, Boston College and UC San Diego.
- Jared Palmer is a former Wimbledon doubles champion who held world rankings as high as #1 in doubles and #35 in singles. He also won the men’s doubles title at the Australian Open as well as the mixed doubles titles at the US OPEN and the Australian Open. He is a former Davis Cup team member and Olympian. Jared played collegiate tennis at Stanford where he was the NCAA singles champion.
- Losaline Mafileo is the head tennis coach of the highly successful Sacred Heart Prep tennis program. Over the past 5 seasons her teams have won seven league titles, three Central Coast Section championships and two Northern California titles. Sacred Heart Prep players have also captured five individual Central Coast Section tournament titles during this time. During the 2006-7 season, the Gator boys won both the western regional of the National High School Team Invitational Tournament in Corona del Mar and the National High School Team Invitational Tournament in Mason, Ohio.
- Jack Helu Jr. has worked within the Sacred Heart Schools tennis program the past five years. He is currently working as a coach/mentor for Dexterity Sports and Literacy (a non-profit that serves the youth of East Palo Alto).
There are three options for this program:
- Option #1: Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays
- Option #2: Tuesdays and Thursdays only
- Option #3: Saturdays only
DATES:
This program runs every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday during the months of March, April and May.
PICK-UP: Please pick up your child promptly at the end of any scheduled clinic.
WEATHER: If you have any questions regarding weather, please call Jeff Arons at (650) 888-6244. Jeff’s outgoing message will inform you if a clinic has been cancelled due to inclement weather.
RAIN OUTS: If a clinic is rained-out, make-up opportunities will be given during the 2009 fall clinic session.
EQUIPMENT/SHOES: Remember your tennis racket and non-marking shoes!
COST: Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays (Option #1): $1,755. Tuesdays and Thursdays only (Option #2): $1,170. Saturdays only (Option #3): $650.

Spots will be allocated in the order checks are received. These clinics are run by Jeff Arons and his staff and are not a program of Sacred Heart Schools. Student/parent hereby expressly waives any claim of liability against Jeff Arons, Jeff Arons Tennis, their agents and contractors for any negligence, personal injury, premises liability or other damages which occur to student during the above described tennis lessons. This waiver is a complete release of any responsibility for injuries or damages sustained whether or not the student was engaged in playing tennis at the time of the injury.
Directions
To the Sacred Heart Schools tennis complex (Valparaiso and Emilie Avenue): Please use the main entrance to Sacred Heart Prep to park your car. The courts can be accessed by walking across the football field.
To the Morey tennis complex (Valparaiso and Elena): Take Valparaiso to Elena street towards the Circus Club. The courts are on your right a few hundred yards down Elena. There is an entrance to the campus right before you cross Park Lane.
